I have been raising bees for over 20 years and I still learn something about them nearly everyday.  They are not something to take lightly.  If you want to be a beekeeper, you have to take care of them.  I have learned that the hard way over the years.  I have lost hives in the winter because I assumed that they had enough to eat.  Not the case.  You must be aware of how they are doing and take action if needed.  I check on them weekly now through the winter to make sure they have stores on hand and if not feed them.  It is heartbreaking when you lose a hive.
